Which NDIS management option is right for you?
If you have a plan under the NDIS, there are three options to manage your NDIS funding:
- NDIA-managed (Agency-managed)
- Self-managed (Shared management)
- Plan-managed
You can choose a single option or a combination of the three. No matter how you choose to manage your funding, you still have choice and control to ensure your services and supports meet your needs.
NDIS Management Options
NDIA-managed (Agency-Managed)
Let an NDIS-registered provider take care of everything for you.
With a full agency service model, NDIS service providers are responsible for the day-to-day management of your funding, staffing and rostering, training, and legal and regulatory compliance.
This is when a participant chooses to use the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to manage their NDIS funds. The NDIA will directly pay registered providers of relevant services on behalf of a participant.
This approach is ideal if you prefer a hands-off method for the day-to-day management, whether due to a busy schedule or the desire for peace of mind from a professional and experienced team managing your care.
Self-managed & Shared Management
Self-Managed NDIS Plan
You take full responsibility.
Self-managing your NDIS plan gives you full choice and control. Self-management means you are responsible for managing your NDIS funding, administration, and compliance independently, and employing and managing your team under your own ABN.
This approach is ideal if you prefer to maintain control of your NDIS funding and management
Shared-management
A flexible option where you choose what you manage.
A Shared Management plan gives you the flexibility to choose your staff and manage your roster, while an experienced agency handles the rest of your care and compliance responsibilities.
You can take control of the aspects of care that matter to you, with the security of a provider managing all other aspects.
This approach is ideal if you prefer to manage your team as part of your NDIS funding and management but want to engage providers for support with administration, insurances, payroll, and taxes.
Plan-managed funding
Plan management is when a provider supports you in managing funding within your NDIS plan. These providers are known as plan managers.
If you choose to use a plan manager, they will help you handle your NDIS funds. Plan managers can buy supports for you from both registered and unregistered providers. They get funds from the NDIA and pay service providers on your behalf.
Plan management providers, except those in Western Australia, are required to be
registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission). This is the independent agency established to improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services for NDIS participants.
This approach is ideal if you prefer to use registered and non-registered providers for
most support.
