Spinal cord injury support services

At Home Care is a registered NDIS provider and a registered provider to the Western Australian Ventilator Dependent Quadriplegic Community Care Program (VDQ-CCP). As an SCI care service provider, we are proud to specialise in nursing and in home care for people living with spinal cord injuries.

Our Clinical Nursing Team and Clinical Governance Committee lead our team of spinal cord injury support workers and nurses. All team members receive specialised training delivered by our accredited trainers and clinical team to ensure they have the skills and confidence to provide this high level of disability support.

At Home Care is experienced in transitioning clients from hospitals and residential care to the community in both local and rural settings, with extensive experience moving and caring for ventilated quadriplegics.

Specialist SCI service provider

A member of our nursing team will work with you to develop an individual nursing care plan and use this information to provide tailored training to your spinal cord injury carers. All members of the At Home Care team have access to 24/7 clinical on-call support from our Perth-based clinical nursing team.

Our spinal cord injury support services include:

  • Bowel management, including peristeen and colostomy care
  • Bladder management, including tap and express, IDC, SPC and ileostomy
  • Ventilator management
  • Tracheostomy management, including suctioning, dressing and changes
  • Cough assist
  • PEG management, including medications, feeds and changes
  • Manual handling
  • Medication administration
  • Meal preparation, dressing, shaving and transport
  • Respite Care, social inclusion and companionship

These nursing and personal support services are available from three to 24 hours a day. You can make a referral if you’re ready to enquire about our services. 


In-home support and nursing for Ventilator Dependent Quadriplegics (VDQs)

Access clinically-led ventilator support services that are with you at every stage, helping you maintain your independence, stay active in the community, and enhance your quality of life. At Home Care’s support workers and nurses undergo additional training and must receive sign-off from our clinical nurses before providing specialised care. This commitment to quality ensures you have confidence in the level of care you receive.

At Home Care is an official provider of the Ventilator Dependent Quadriplegic Community Care Program (VDQ-CCP) in WA.

The program supports patients, families and other health services in the care of ventilator dependant patients, including:

  • transition from hospital to the community
  • specialist, individualised community care

Our expert team of ventilator-competent Support Workers and Nurses is led by our Head of Nursing and Client Experience, Dee Donachie. Dee has over 30 years’ experience as a Spinal Nurse in acute, rehabilitation and community settings, and managed Fiona Stanley’s Ventilator Dependent Quadriplegic Program between 2006-2016.
