What does being a Support Worker look like?

The role of a Support Worker (also known as a Disability Support Worker or Carer) is a special one.

Our team of Support Workers provide day-to-day assistance to adults and children living with disability – supporting them to live independently and helping them work toward their goals and discover new passions. When your job is to give someone the freedom to live life how they choose, each day is different – and there’s plenty of fun to be had along the way!

Each of our clients have goals they would like to achieve, which are as diverse as learning to make a delicious meal, going bowling, getting a job, or improving their fitness. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing your clients progress towards their goals. Most of our Support Workers work closely with the same people, so you get to know them well and celebrate their progress.

Whilst many of the adults and children we support need assistance with physical tasks such as getting in and out of bed, showering and getting ready for the day, others may need assistance processing information and accessing the community.

New to disability support?

You’ll feel right At Home in no time! When you become a Support Worker with At Home Care in Perth or anywhere in WA, you will complete a hands-on, paid two-day induction with one of our experienced in-house trainers. You will also complete client specific clinical training and buddy shifts to help you get to know your clients, and their care needs and preferences.

When you start working with At Home Care, you will be mentored by our dedicated Carer Development Facilitator, a position dedicated to supporting our newest team members. Once you are established with a client’s team, you will then be guided and mentored by a Care Team Coordinator, who will support you day to day and assist you in achieving your professional development goals.

For every shift, you will have access to 24/7 clinical on-call support, so if you are ever unsure about a situation or an aspect of someone’s care, the clinical team are only ever a phone call away.
